1 Week 1 Day

A couple more pictures from today are up on Flickr.  You can tell that Jon and I have loads of stuff to do during this baby-vacation. Evan is currently at preschool and we are just hanging around the house in our pajamas. Jonathan picked out this cute little play sleeper at Target the other day. We don’t have very many girl clothes yet; most of our 0-3 month infant clothes are gender neutral enough to get by. I do have a football play-suit to dress her in during the Patriots game, however.

Open Eyes

Take a look at Evan’s beautifully alert face. Karen has just started being more alert as well, on this 1 week and 1 day past her birth day. We took this picture of Evan just to show the grandparents and great-grandparents that Evan actually had eyes. He had been sleeping through every visit of theirs up to this point. He became more and more alert after this point and morphed into the happiest little baby you could imagine; except between 9pm and 12am each night….

Of doctor’s appointments and false alarms

Yesterday brought us to day 7 past the due date.  We tried progesterone gel to induce labor at 11am, and by 3pm, I thought I was in early labor.  I called my mother and mother-in-law, and by 8:30pm, the house was full of parents (and a sister) eager to meet the new addition.  We left for the hospital at midnight, after the Red Sox victory, and arrived at the Birthing Center around 12:30am.  There was no progression by 3:45am, so we ended up going home to sleep in our own (warm and comfortable) bed.  I slept from 4am to 8am without feeling a single contraction, so it’s official: labor either stalled or never really started in the first place.

In other news, Evan went to the doctor’s on Thursday for his 3-year-old well-visit appointment.  He is measuring at 36.5 inches (27th percentile) and weighing in at 28 pounds (13th percentile).  He got a “big boy” appointment, complete with blood pressure measurements and the big boy scale.  He answered questions and obeyed requests.  When his blood was drawn, he watched with curiosity.  He did a great job. I’m proud of my big boy.

He also go a hair-cut on Friday… as you can tell, I was trying to get some appointments out of the way.  Unfortunately, there were no appointments for me to get my hair cut, so if the baby comes soon, you’ll have to endure the shaggy hair!

UPDATE: (Still no baby) Evan went to the Children’s Hospital in Salem to get blood drawn for an allergy test. The phlebotomist said that he was her best patient all day, among both kids AND adults. We have a professional patient on our hands.

A Zoo Day

We went to the Stone Zoo again on Monday. Evan and I met Maura and Matt there, and we enjoyed looking at the animals together. Evan especially liked the black bears and the cougar.

Stone Zoo is pretty small… we hope to make it out to the Franklin Park zoo sometime soon, too.

You can see some other photos from the day here.

Pictures from our springtime trip to Stone Zoo are here.

The Pumpkin Patch

So many pumpkins!, originally uploaded by alisajon.

Evan and I met up with some friends at Connor’s Farm in Danvers, MA to pick out a pumpkin from their pumpkin patch. Evan loved romping around the farm– this late day play-date was perfect for tiring him out!

You can see more photos from this day at this photo set on Flickr: Pumpkin Patch October 2008.

Baby News

Sunday, September 28th, 2008

Nope….. no baby yet.   But if you want to be on the mailing list to be notified first thing, leave a comment to this post or email us.  Otherwise, you’ll find out whenever we get around to posting a note on this blog.  And you know how often we’ve been updating this thing…….

My official due date is October 11th, although I wouldn’t be surprised if things happened sooner than that… at least that’s my hope!

Evan is excited about becoming a big brother.   He talks to the baby, and sometimes even sings to the baby… “All the Pretty Little Horses” is the baby’s official lullaby.

And no, we don’t know what we are having, so I’m trying to avoid using pronouns!

Abstract Art

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

I just found this great little web site that allows you to paint like Jackson Pollock.  One of Evan’s favorite books describes the process that Jackson Pollock went through to create one of his paintings.  I can’t wait to introduce this web site to Evan!  It’s so abstract and simple that I have no problem with my 3 year old playing on this web site.

Beach Bums and Conference Mommy

Beach Bums, originally uploaded by alisajon.

I’m currently at a genetic epidemiology conference in St. Louis, and I’ve been thinking about the last time I went to this conference…. two years ago. Jon and Evan came down to Saint Pete Beach, Florida. I took this picture on our first day there, shortly before I left to do conference things.

I’ve been gone from Boston since Sunday, so I’m really missing my boys. Hopefully the entire family can come with me to my conference next year…. in Hawaii!

At the 4H fair

Here’s Evan enjoying the music show at the 4H Fair and hanging out with Uncle Mike.  I love Wordpress for the iPhone.

Strawberry Day

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

I hope to get an opportunity soon to post about the wonderful Strawberry Day that Evan and I had on Sunday. Here you can see him enjoying his strawberry shortcake at the festival.

You can find more photos from the day in this photo set.
